French version

Fortunate Bigboss which, by a happy circumstance, had moved away from our trio, had not been arrested by the police officers. At the end of a few days, thanks to his high-placed relations, Fortunate Bigboss succeeds in obtaining a right of access for the dissident Martin.

He thus learned with this last that if he had been stopped, like his two companions, it was following a denunciation of the criminals who had robbed the bank. They thus expected to dilute their responsibility.

Martin: " Thus, a simple charge, without any proof, is enough to make you accuse... and imprison? "

Fortunate Bigboss: " Alas yes! You entered the collimator of Justice. It is very dangerous. One can even say irreversible ".

Martin: " How irreversible? "

Fortunate Bigboss: " Eh yes! You pass from the statute of citizen to that of justiciable ".

Martin: " Which decides some? "

Fortunate Bigboss: " The examining magistrate, supremely ".

Martin: " Without proof? Without me to have heard? "

Fortunate Bigboss: " It is the law ".

In accordance with the law, Martin waited 37 days before being introduced to the judge. This one, overloaded files, agree to receive him during a few minutes, in the presence of an officially appointed lawyer. This last, a man very much in a hurry, had advised with his customer to acknowledge to obtain the sympathy of the magistrate, who detested the denials of the accused. Martin was an accused. Martin, strong-minded, refused to acknowledge his culpability with the magistrate. This one, in a anger for this lack of cooperation, thus returned the accused to stagnate again in his jail.

The fate of Candide was edifying.

His companion of cell, a frightening recidivist, put himself at the head to violate him. Candide, not very receptive with this prison tradition, tried to escape. Followed an epic brawl and the arrival, in middle of the night, of the jailers. Very dissatisfied, one would be it with less, to be awaked in full phase of paradoxical sleep, the guards refused to listen to the explanations of Candide and immediately took it along to the " cooler ". While waiting to appear before the court, Candide, dangerous troublemaker, achieves her punishment in the districts of high security.

As for Master Pangloss, a stay in the gaols of the Republic did not affect his inalterable optimism. His neighbor of cell, a professional delinquent, purged a eight years sorrow of reclusion. Master Pangloss explained to him, with much persuasion, that his sorrow being fully deserved, his stay in prison was entirely justified. And that thus, all was for the best in the best possible world ones. His neighbor agreed on it. Nevertheless, he did not understand why Master Pangloss, innocent, held company in his gaol to him. Master Pangloss explained to him, again, that, all being for the best in the best possible world ones, an accident could occur. But the natural command of the things was going to be restored. Master Pangloss had confidence completely. All was going to be arranged. All was to be arranged!

At the end of six months, alternating the stays in dungeon and gaol, with the liking of moods of their guards, our three travellers transfer to arrive the day of the lawsuit. One took them along in the courtroom full to bursting. Their lawyer, that they had always seen seldom and quickly, had been replaced by a famous lawyer that Fortunate Bigboss had gotten to them. Their lawyer, when he saw them, encouraged them, indicating to them that the President of the Court had just informed him that a dramatic turn had just occurred. He hardly knew any more.

When the audience proceeded, they learned, with amazement and happiness, that the criminals who had shown them complicity were quarreled. They were rejected the responsibilities for the holdup mutually and had reconsidered their charges. Our three heroes were not thus guilty any more of complicity and their good faith was recognized.

Not so quickly! One does not put with impunity the finger in the gears of Justice.

Because of the bad conduct of our three travellers in a penal establishment where they had resided for six months and although their innocence in the holdup was recognized, they were sentenced to six months of prison, without deferment. As they had just purged, on suspicion,

their sorrow, all were well which finished well. The justiciable ones had not made a day of prison moreover than their judgment. The honor of Justice was except.

The Justice of the Republic had passed.
